The first copy of 'Rana' that came in the combination of director Bharati Raja and hero Arjun with Kajal in the female lead was ready.

The film was simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil languages.

Producer K Lakshminarayana Reddy, who had brought out the film on the banner of Sri Lakshmi Srinivasa Pictures says, 'Earlier, we gave the title of 'Kalidasu' for our movie. But we were forced to change the title to 'Rana' due to some unavoidable circumstances. We shot the film in Malaysia, Mumbai, Goa, Chennai and other such places. The music scored by Himesh Reshmiya would remain a highlight of the movie. Ghantasala Ratnakumar scripted the dialogues for the Telugu version, while lyrics were penned by Bhuvanachandra, Vennelakanti and Sahiti. The character played by Nana Patekar would be novel and different. We are making efforts to release the film in June.'

Rukmini, Manivanna, Vivek, Ranjitha and others are in the cast. Camera is by Kannan, while story, screenplay and direction are by Bharati Raja.
