Actor Rana Daggubati, who tasted a disaster with the last week's release Aranya, has agreed to star in a period drama. The new film will mark the debut of Venky, a former associate of Sukumar, as the director. Touted to be a period drama, the film is set in the 1940s and showcases Rana Daggubati in a new avatar.
The untitled film is being produced by Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta under the 14 Reels Plus banner. The movie will go on floors later this year soon after the release of Viraata Parvam. For the uninitiated, Venky has been associated with Sukumar for the last few years and he also worked as a co-writer for the director's recent outings.
Incidentally, Venky is the second associate of Sukumar to turn a director after Buchi Babu Sana, who recently made his directorial debut with Vaisshnav Tej-starrer Uppena. Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the revenge drama has become a stupendous hit at the box office.
Besides this film, Rana is also working for the Telugu remake of the Malayalam action entertainer Ayyappyum Koshiyum. Directed by Saagar K Chandra, the film has Pawan Kalyan in the lead role. The Baahubali actor is also hosting Aha's talk show, No 1 Yaari with Rana season 3.
