If Jagapathi Babu lend his voice for the giant's character in Steven Spielberg's The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), Rana Daggubati is doing it for Tom Hanks. It's for the mystery thriller 'Inferno'. The actor has revealed why he agreed to dub for the actor despite being busy with 'Baahubali-2'.
"I have enjoyed myself all of Dan Brown's books. I have also enjoyed the on-screen portrayal of Robert Langdon. Tom Hanks is a legendary actor and to be a part of his legacy in this way made for an exciting partnership of sorts. Moreover, 'Inferno' is quite significant for us in India because it truly celebrates the power of the Indian market for global players, given that they are releasing it two weeks ahead of the US. To me, I will be able to look back and feel proud of having memorable characters like Bhallaldev and Robert Langdon to my credit in the same year."
Rana has also thrown more light. "As an actor, I learnt a lot while dubbing for an actor of the caliber of Tom Hanks. I did a small exercise for myself by recording while I dubbed. This helped me a lot in my performance. It was almost like getting trained from someone like Tom Hanks. It is great that a lot of actors today are chosen to do voice-overs and dubbing for Hollywood movies, be it PC, Irrfan or Om Puri . A great story should reach as many more people as possible and by way of dubbing a Hollywood film, you tend to increase cinematic viewership for the audience and create the local connect. I would want to dub for many more films in future ."
Rana had seen a special cut of the film and immediately decided to come on board. He dubbed for Tom Hanks's part over 3 days, every night, post pack-up, at Ramoji Film City.
'Inferno' will be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on Oct 14.
