As Ramya Krishna celebrates her birthday tomorrow, she is revelling in the grand openings that 'Shailaja Reddy Alludu' has taken. In this interview, the senior actress talks about her role in the movie, why it was fun shooting for the movie, working with Maruthi and more.

With the movie earning about Rs. 12 Cr (gross) on Day 1, what is on your mind?

I am very glad that I have a super hit in my kitty this birthday. Everybody has worked really hard on this film. I congratulate them all on this success.

What is atypical about your character in the movie?

To be sure, Shailja Reddy is a well-etched, novel character. On the one side, she is ferocious enough to fight for justice when women in her village are victimized. On the other hand, there are her equations with her daughter (played by Anu Emmanuel). The way Maruthi garu has scripted the character is really nice. The Attha character in the movie is not regular and that's why it has worked big time. You won't find routine Attha-Alludu comedy in the movie. The film is a sweet surprise.

Also, the ways of your character its equations are interesting. Isn't it?

While she is an egoistic lady, the scenes involving her and other characters are very interesting. You see a new 'Attha' and 'Alludu' in the movie. Because of my character's ways and the atypical ways of Anu's character, Naga Chaitanya's character is nudged.

They exert pressure on him by their ways. But it's all fun to watch. Naresh garu, Prudhvi garu and Vennela Kishore add to the comedy quotient. We used to laugh in sets so much that the shooting would be postponed for some time. I enjoyed myself doing the film.

You have done a lot of films with Nagarjuna in the 1990s. And it's now with his son as an elder. How do you assess Chay's acting?

I am very happy that I got to work with the father-son duo in different decades. Chaitanya is a down-to-earth person. He has matured so much as an actor. In the scene where he convinces me and Anu, he has done a fabulous job in that scene.

How was it working with Maruthi?

Maruthi garu works at a jet speed. The shots are ready even before you can relax! Someday, it was raining a lot and I hoped that there won't be any shooting for the day. But no luck with him (smiles). He has got a bright future. He always comes with a solid planning.

How do you see your performance in the movie?

An artist has to be able to do everything. When it comes to comedy, the co-artist's timing is of importance. I feel my comedy was so good in 'Panchatantram'. In 'SRA', comedy is done by the characters around me. It's a hilarious thing to watch. But I have to look serious always. It was a difficult thing for me to pull off.

Tell us about the cinematography.

Everyone in the film is looking so good. That's because director Maruthi garu made the cinematographer Nizar Shafi give the best output. It also helped that the producers at Sithara Entertainments come with the best production values.

What are your future plans with respect to movies?

It's because of the varied kind of roles that I have done in my career that I have been able to be here. I will continue to do distinct roles.
