Rama Banam Review

Actor Gopichand and director Sriwass teamed up for Ramabanam, a film that created a solid buzz before its release. The film is out in theaters now, and you can find out how it is.

Story

Vicky, played by Gopichand, is an aggressive person who thinks violence is the way to solve problems. His brother Rajaram, played by Jagapathi Babu, is quite the opposite of Vicky. He believes that everything should be set right in a peaceful way. A conflict makes Vicky leave his home in childhood, and he reaches Kolkata, where he becomes a "Bhai" in no time. He falls for Bhairavi, played by Dimple Hayathi, a vlogger. Bhairavi's father agrees to their marriage but asks him about his family. This made Vicky come back to his brother. There, he comes to know about the problem of his brother with GK, played by Tarun Arora. What's the issue, and how does Vicky sort it out? That forms the crux of the story.

Analysis

If you have watched the theatrical trailer, you will know how regular the movie is, and even in interviews, Gopichand said that the story is routine, but the treatment is different. This is exactly what happened to Ramabanam. The story written by Bhupathi Raja is outdated and lacks newness. But a neat screenplay helped the film and made it watchable.

The characters and their characterizations are quite routine. Gopichand gives his best, and his performance is routine. We have seen him in many action movies, and this is another such action drama but with some emotional scenes between brothers.

Jagapathi Babu is fine in his given role, and casting him in this role is a perfect choice for the makers. He excels in emotional scenes. Dimple Hayathi doesn't have much to perform in this flick. She remained in a few scenes and songs. The first half is filled with good comedy scenes, thanks to Satya, Vennela Kishore, Getup Srinu, and Ali. Their performances evoked laughs.

Tarun Arora and Nasser are not established well. The director should have taken better care of the story and characters. Unfortunately, he stuck to directing the film only. Other characters are of no use in this regular commercial potboiler. The music is good, and a couple of songs are good to listen to and also pleasant to watch on the big screen. The cinematography is so good, thanks to Vetri Palanisamy. People Media Factory spent good money to make the film look rich, and one can witness it on the big screen. The editor still has a lot of work to finish. He should have cut many unnecessary and over-the-top scenes in the second half.

Verdict

Overall, Ramabanam is a routine commercial flick that is laced with action and emotion. Except for Gopichand and his action comedy scenes, the movie has nothing fresh to offer. You can give the film a watch unless you are fine with a mediocre plot filled with some good amount of comedy and action.
