Mohanlal's recent Telugu movies Janatha Garage, Manamantha and Manyam Puli have brought him huge fan base in Andhra Pradesh. No wonder his latest release 'Kanupapa', the Telugu dubbed version of his Malayalam blockbuster Oppam, has also opened to positive responses.

Popular filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma who is known for his controversial statements, watched Kanupapa which released today, and had all praise for Mohanlal. "What some stars could not achieve in Tollywood, MohanLal Garu did that with just 3 movies. #Kanupapa is a brilliant movie, must watch," wrote Ram Gopal Varma on his social media page.

He also pointed out that other big stars and directors should stop doing their routine formula movies and follow Mohanlal. "Atlas after watching #Kanupapa all the big Stars & Directors should stop doing same old routine formula movies. My Sincere _/\_ to MohanLal," wrote RGV. While, Mohanlal fans are celebrating RGV's comments, fans of other Telugu top stars are not so happy.

Directed by Priyadarshan, 'Kanupapa' is the Telugu dubbed version of Malayalam blockbuster Oppam. In the movie, Mohanlal plays as blind man who tries to protect a girl from a psycho killer. Oppam was Mohanlal's 2016 Onam release, that minted over Rs 60 crore at the worldwide box office.
