The three-day pre-wedding functions of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar were graced by guests not only from among the high and mighty in India but also by international celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Rihanna, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ram Charan, Rani Mukerji, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and many more.
In a rare appearance on the second day of the festivities, Salman, Shah Rukh, and Aamir Khan performed together. They tried the RRR song "Naatu Naatu" hook step. Later, Ram Charan joined them onstage, and Shah Rukh mocked him with Telugu or Tamil gibberish.
However, this sense of humor did not go well with everyone. Shah Rukh's comment about 'idli' and 'vada' did not impress Zeba Hassan, the makeup artist for Ram Charan. She went on to tweet that it was so disrespectful to Ram Charan, heaping race stereotype controversy on the whole 'idli' comment.
The Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was accused by some Twitter users of casual racism against South Indians, while his manager Zeba later deleted an Instagram post on the treatment of regional artists. The incident brought up the absolute need for cultural sensitivity in dealing with entertainment.
Shahrukh Khan is being insensitive by referring to Ram Charan as "idli," which could be perceived as a racial stereotype against South Indians. SHAME ON YOU @iamsrk#RamCharan pic.twitter.com/kUFRd6fTUj
