It's known that Rakul Preet Singh has moved the Delhi High Court against "media trials" ever since her name was mentioned in connection with the drugs scandal of Bollywood. She, on Thursday, urged the court to direct the Union of India (the Central government) to direct the media to show restraint.
News has emerged that, in her petition, Rakul argued that the consequences of "false reports" against her have been real. She said that she has been removed from endorsement contracts (by advertizers?). Usually, media witchhunt can result in terrible consequences for celebs. It seems Rakul has become a victim of the same.
"TV channels are purposely showing certain movie clips of my client wherein she could be seen smoking and drinking," her lawyer is reported to have argued.
It seems the court can't place a gag order on the media, given practical implications and violation of the freedom of expression. On her part, Rakul has described the "media trials" as defamatory in nature. The 'Sarrainodu' actress feels that her rights under Article 21 have been compromised by all this.
