Brahmaramba is not arrogant, but innocent: Rakul
Send us your feedback to audioarticles@vaarta.com
In 'Rarandoi Veduka Chuddam', Rakul Preet Singh is playing one of the most well-written characters of her career. Visibly proud and happy about the movie, in this free-wheeling chat, the talented diva talks about working with Chaitanya-Nagarjuan duo, how she sees herself as a Hyderabadi, and more.
From the beginning, you have been very much in love with this character in 'RVC'. Tell us about the character and how the journey has been.
With the trailer itself, Brahmaramba has got registered in the audience's minds. A strong character, it's the kind that used to be written in older films like a 'Ninne Pelladatha'. I thank the director for keeping faith and offering me such a role. I can't describe how much I enjoyed playing it. I became Brahmaramba. I will miss the character.
On the last day of the shoot, I told them that I will have withdrawal symptoms as I will be missing it a lot. The amount of fun we had had was great.
Why do you say that such roles were seen in the films of a bygone era?
She is the kind of girls found in the joint families among Telugus. She wears half-sarees and uses bright colours. When in the city, she wears choodidhar.
The film brings out the innocence of relationships in a joint family, the bond between two lovers, the father-son relationships, etc so beautifully. It's full of sweet emotions.
What is it with the tag line that reads that girls are injurious to mental peace?
If girls are injurious, what are boys? They are poisonous. (Laughs).
Is Brahmaramba arrogant? Why else would the hero say that girls are injurious to mental peace?
(Laughs). She is a pampered girl in her family. She is not arrogant, but innocent. She is brought up in a set-up where whatever she says is the final word. Everybody in her family is with her.
She waits for a Rajakumarudu and doesn't know when she will meet him.
Is it how you are in real-life as well?
Not at all. We are an army family. Very disciplined at home. It's not being strict, though. Unfair demands get a big No from elders. If you are pampered, you wouldn't understand the ways of the world.
How come such strong characters are not written more often?
Such characters can be written in love stories where both the male and female leads have equal weightage. If there are three scripts that are offered, I can only choose the best of them and do it. Not all films have such characters. Tabu got to play one in 'Ninne Pelladatha', Trisha got to play one in 'Nuvvosthanante Nenoddantana', and Samantha got to play one in 'Ye Maya Chesave'.
It must have been a thorough blast working with Naga Chaitanya and Nagarjuna.
I have always known Chaitanya as a good friend. It never felt like I was working with a co-star. That's the kind of comfort level I have with him. He is such a nice, grounded guy.
Nagarjuna sir has been great. We felt very comfortable throughout. He would take care of all that we wanted. He appreciated me for my performance and that's big. Watching the way I played drums in the movie, he asked me if I always knew it. I had never touched it at all!
How about Kalyan Krishna and Devi Sri Prasad?
Kalyan Krishna is again a very nice guy. He is open to suggestions. I told him that he should cast me again.
About Devi Sri Prasad, we all know what a rock star he is. But for two, other songs are montage numbers, which is very difficult to compose. They take the story forward. And he has done a fantastic job with them.
Every time, you surprise us with your Telugu fluency.
I am a proud Hyderabadi now. I have myself forgotten that I hail from Delhi. The other day when I was shooting in Chennai for a Tamil film, they got me a Telugu translator! And I am a proud Indian first.
How is it going with respect to 'Spyder'? How about doing Bollywood in future?
It's too early to talk about it. If I say everything now, what will remain to be said before the film's release? (Smiles). I am playing a doctor, which you already know.
I will do Hindi if I get good offers.
