Rakshakan
After a gap of five years, Thulassedas is returning to filmdom with Kalabhavan Mani flick 'Rakshakan'. The film also is the comeback film for Manya who hasn't appeared in Malluwood for a very long time.
Rakshakan presents Kalabhavan Mani as Mukundan who is forced to start a new life as mechanic and take over his father's bus service following a premature death of his father. Mukundan who is the only reason to live for his mother and three sisters, has got a lot of financial liabilities, that incurred to the family as his father has borrowed a lot to marry off his eldest sister, Indira.
Lazar Panackal, who lend the money to the family now starts threatening Mukundan for repayment. It is at this juncture Mukundan learns that Bhaskaran Nair, his father's business partner owed him around ten lakhs. He decides to get the money back from Bhaskaran Nair, and settle the account with Lazar but Bhaskaran Nair is not willing to give it back.
Mukundan who happends to find a friend in journalist Aswathy, Bhaskaran's daughter, explains his position and Aswathy decides to help Mukundan in getting back the money. Mukundan and his family has an everlasting sorrow in the suicide of his younger brother Sreekuttan, a medical student. The family couldn't identify any definite reasons apart from financial crisis for the fatal attempt.
In the meantime a group of goondas tries to manhandle a youth who came with a marriage proposal for Mukundan's younger sister, Indhu. Mukundan identifies them as the team of Vedimara Zakhir, who is a known don of the city and happens to cross swords with Vedimara Zakhir. In these times of chaos, appear Ashok Varma the new circle inspector, who take charge in the city and begins to clear off the mafia with the help of Mukundan, who by then has grown up to become a savior of society, fighting to protect his dear ones and family against goonda mafia. Kalabhavan Mani has every ingredients and punch lines to excel in the lead role of Mukundan. Manya plays Aswathy, while Riyas Khan appear as Vedimara Zakhir and Aashish Vidyaarthy as C.I.Ashok Varma. The film is based on a story by Haridaas Karivellor is scripted by the director himself who is in a desperate need of a hit to cement back his position. The others in the cast include Laalu Alex, Jagathy, Harishree Ashokan, Suja Kaarthika, Shaalu Menon, Shruthy , Mini , K.P.A.C. Lalitha, Geetha Salam and Subair.
The film has six songs written by Rajeen Alungal and Arumugham Venkidangu, set to music by Sanjeev Lal. Utpal V. Nayanaar wields the camera.
Rakshakan, which is being produced under the banner of Swamy and Kala, has completed its shooting in different parts of Kannur, and will grace the theatres by the end of this year. The film will be distributed by Liberty.
