Summer is taking a toll on the daily routine of everyone in Tamil Nadu, and the state has been witnessing a never before witnessed water scarcity as there were no rains like previous years. Chennai has been one of the most impacted due to water scarcity.
In this scenario, with most of the lakes in and around Chennai left without water, people of Chennai have been receiving water from Thiruvallur agricultural wells, which are being supplied every alternate day, and people are forced to wait for water. Following this, rather than accusing the government, Rajni Makkal Mandram members of North Chennai have come up with an action plan.
Rajni Makkal Mandram members have been supplying water in tanker lorries to every street in Chennai where there is demand, free of cost. They are getting water from areas like Periyapalayam, Alamadhi, Red hills at a cost of 5000 per lorry, and are giving to people to areas worst affected by scarcity. With 3 big lorries with 35000 litres capacity and 5 small tankers with 20000 litres capacity, the Rajni Makkal Mandram members are supplying 2 lakhs litres of water everyday and are being appreciated for this great initiative.
