With just two days to go for the release of the much-awaited biopic, ‘Sanju’, it looks like director Rajkumar Hirani has taken a dig at Salman Khan who had earlier stated that it would be great if Sanjay Dutt himself played in ‘Sanju’ instead of Bollywood’s heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor.
On asked on his views during the ‘Race 3’ promotions, Bhaijaan earlier had said,“Whenever Sanju wants to make a comeback, he will. It is all left to Sanjay Dutt, the day he thinks ‘I want to come back, he will be back.’ Even for the movie Sanju, I thought why did somebody else play his part. No one can do justice to that. The last bit of the film, Sanju only should have played it himself. The last portion of the last eight to ten years, Sanju only should have done it”.
After Ranbir disagreed it saying that it has never happened that a person played himself in his own biopic as it destroys the effect of a character, now the director himself has come forth with his own reactions. Rajkumar in an interview said,” The thought of Sanjay as his older self in the films final portions had crossed my mind for a moment, but then I let it go as I felt it would be too abrupt and weird. For one, you are seeing Ranbir as Sanju throughout most of the film, and then suddenly, you see Sanjay playing his older self, which would have automatically disconnected the public's link with the film."
Hirani further added that he had also considered Sanjay Dutt to play the role of his father, Suneel Dutt in the biopic but dropped this idea as well since it would be absurd to accept Sanjay as Suneel Dutt in the ‘Munna Bhai’ portions too.
‘Sanju’ is a biopic on the controversial life of actor Sanjay Dutt that also features Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Jim Sarbh, Vicky Kaushal and Karishma Tanna apart from Ranbir Kapoor in the lead roles. It is slated to hit hte screens on June 29.
