Tamil Nadu BJP president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has remarked that Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘spiritual politics’ jelled well with the BJP’s ideologies.
Tamilisai’s comments assume significance at a time critics are quick to point out to similar references made by auditor-journalist Gurumoorthy (editor of Tughlaq) when he recently said that Rajini can create a magic in the State if he allied with the BJP.
After garlanding the statue of Saint Tiruvalluvar on the Marina Beach on ‘Tiruvallar Day’ yesterday, Tamilisai addressed waiting newsmen. The questions invariably were on Gurumoorthy’s remarks. Tamilisai responded by stating that Gurumoorthy’s comments ought to be viewed in his status as a senior journalist and a political critic.
“As far as the BJP is concerned, we are determined to create a Tamil Nadu sans the presence of the Kazhagams (DMK, AIADMK, MDMK, etc.); this is the reason why we have been fighting all the polls without aligning with either of the Kazhagams. Our main objective is to strengthen the party at grassroots level; it appears that Rajini’s brand of politics is closely related to the BJP’s ideologies,” she said.
“We have been fighting corruption for long, something which Rajini too spoke about. Though we may have the same ideologies, it need not mean that we would be together for the polls. He has just entered politics and ought to prove his functioning and strength in running an organization. We would watch everything before taking a final decision (on allying with Rajini’s proposed political outfit),” Tamilisai concluded.
