The savage murder of father-son duo Jayaraj and Bennicks by police in Tamil Nadu has shocked the nation. From film celebs to sportspersons and social media influencers, everyone has condemned the ghastly incident.

On Wednesday, Superstar Rajinikanth waded into the issue and gave a strong statement. "Even after the entire humanity condemned the brutal killing of the father and son, I was shocked to learn the manner in which certain policemen spoke and behaved right in front of the magistrate. Those involved should be punished severely. The should never escape," the actor-politician wrote on Twitter.

Jayaraj and Bennix were arrested on January 19 and booked under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 353 (use of force to deter public servant from duty) 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), and 506(2) (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They were allegedly brutally tortured while in custody and were later released and taken to a hospital where a doctor declared them fit despite eyewitnesses reporting that they beaten up and still bleeding. They later succumbed to their injuries.
