Following the mysterious murder of a 45-year-old woman in Nellore, the police launched a search for the killer, whose autorickshaw had a sticker of actor Rajinikanth on it. The sticker eventually helped the police in tracing and identifying the murderer.
The victim, Nirmala Bhai, was residing alone in a rented house in Nellore after her husband’s passing three years ago, with her son working in Bengaluru and daughter studying in Tirupati. The accused, Ramaswamy, broke into her residence and stole bangles, a gold chain, earrings, and some cash from her wallet. He later stabbed the woman nearly ten times in the throat, following which he set her on fire and left the gas valve open in order to make the death look accidental. When the police surveyed the CCTV camera footage from near the house, they noticed an autorickshaw with a sticker of Rajinikanth arriving at the location right before the murder and leaving after it. This led to the police running checks on over 10000 autorickshaws in the city and in the rural limits as well.
The accused was finally nabbed after they traced the location of the auto, after which the man confessed to killing the woman and narrated the entire incident. The Nellore city DSP, the area’s inspector, and sub-inspectors have been rewarded for their efforts in solving the case.
