Former Union Minister and senior Congressman P Chidambaram has expressed his disappointment with Superstar Rajinikanth extending vocal support to the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens and National Population Register. On Wednesday, the 'Darbar' actor said that the CAA doesn't affect Indian Muslims and that NPR is needed to weed out illegal immigrants.
"I am disappointed with Mr. Rajnikanth’s statement on CAA. If he had asked me, I would’ve explained to him why the CAA is discriminatory and violates Article 14 of the Constitution. I think we could create an opportunity when the discriminatory provisions of CAA can be explained to Mr. Rajnikanth," Chidambaram said.
Rajini's supporters hit back at PC and said that, when he was the Union Home Minister, he actively advocated NPR.
