Superstar Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj are contemporaries who have starred together in several movies during the eighties. While Sathyaraj has played the villain's henchman and also the villain against Rajini in most of his movies his big break came in a grey shaded role as Rajini's father in 'Mr. Bharat' directed by S.P. Muthuraman.
During a hunger strike on the Cauvery issue Sathyaraj's fiery speech was seen as an attack on Rajinikanth and both their fans went at loggerheads with each other due to it. However Sathyaraj even in his recent interviews has stated that he admires his senior as a superstar actor.
Sibiraj during the promotions of his new movie 'Maayon' has addressed the issue and has stated that there is actually no bad blood between his father and the Thalaivar. He also added that when Shankar approached Sathyaraj to play the villain against Rajini in 'Sivaji', he refused only because he was acting as the hero in many films at that time and he did not want to displease distributors. He also clarified that the rumour about Rajini irked by him using his film title 'Ranga' is false.
'Maayon' is directed by N. Kishore with Ilayaraja scoring the music. The film stars Sibi Sathyaraj, Tanya Ravichandran, Radha Ravi, K. S. Ravikumar, Bagavathi Perumal, Hareesh Peradi and Arash Shah. The film is releasing on June 24th.
