Superstar Rajinikanth the most celebrated actor in Indian cinema has done around 169 films so far. However one of the few directors who showed him in an entirely new light was Mani Ratnam in his 1991 critically acclaimed blockbuster hit 'Thalapathy'.
During the audio launch of 'Ponniyin Selvan' too Rajini who participated as a chief guest joked that he found it difficult to satisfy Mani Ratnam who wanted him to feel the character he was playing. Thalaivar added that he took acting tips from Kamal to nail the character of Deva in the cult classic based on the life of Karna in the Mahabharata.
Rajini also revealed that he asked Mani Ratnam to cast him as Periya Pazhuvettarayar in 'Ponniyin Selvan' but the ace director refused telling him that he did not want to earn the wrath of the fans of the demigod.
Now it has been reported that Mani Ratnam has narrated a storyline to Rajini that he liked very much and the project could take off sometime in late 2023. The sources also suggest that Lyca Productions is keen to bankroll the project and more details will emerge after the release of 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' in April next year. Lets keep our fingers crossed for this classic combo to reunite once again and create magic on the big screen.
