Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan have been enthralling Tamil cinema fans for close to half a century with their rivalry on-screen and deep friendship off it. When Kamal started his Makkal Neethi Maiam and Rajini his Rajini Makkal Mandram it looked like they would be fierce rivals in the political arena and most of their respective policies hinted that too. The mass hero preferred to go by the spiritual route while the class hero made it clear that he is for radical centrist ideology.
At the Kamal 60 function the stalwarts hinted that for the good of the Tamil people tomorrow they could walk hand in hand. Ever since that there are reports that as a trailer the celebrated duo are first joining together for a new movie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of 'Kaithi' and 'Thalapathy 64' fame.
Now on the same day on Sunday Rajini's Makkal Neethi Maiam officially stated that the unit will not support any political party in the upcoming local body elections to be held on December 27th and 30th. Not far behind Kamal's Makkal Neethi Maiam too announced that it will not be contesting in the polls which could have served as a dress rehearsal for the 2021 Assembly elections. Political analysts read this as the beginning of similar decisions by the doyens of Indian cinema and their political bonding is expected to get stronger as the days go by.
