Pa.Ranjith is one of the few members in the Indian film industry who belongs to the Dalit community. He is conscious about the state of the historically disadvantaged community for the same reason. 'Kabali' too proved it for us.
Ranjith recently said in an event that he believes Art is the best and most effective tool to bring about social change and that he will try to do that in all of his films.
He further opened up about 'Kaala'.
"I am confident that 'Kaala' will also sow a seed for social change. At the same time it will be a film that will be liked by people and fans. We had an intense shooting schedule in Mumbai and it was interesting too," he began saying.
"So far, no one has gone inside Dharavi (to make a film). Many artists have gone inside but they could not act. It's because it's overwhelmingly crowded. We have shot inside and around Dharavi for four days. One day we shot in Dharavi and for two days we shot in a place adjacent to Dharavi. We have also shot extensively in many important places in Mumbai. We have tried to portray the life of those people in a very realistic manner. But the film is not only about and for Mumbai Tamils. It is about the entire Indian society. "
