Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Hasan were the early birds to cast their votes in Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections held across the state yesterday (May 16).
While many Kollywood celebrities enthusiastically participated in the polling process yesterday the two doyens voted as soon as 7 am in the morning when the polling started. This may be a conscious decision to avoid the public going berserk on seeing the stars, which may cause hindrance to the polling agents and security personnel.
Rajinikanth polled his vote in the polling booth at Stella Maris College for Women, coming under the Thousand Lights constituency in Chennai. After casting his vote, he was followed by the media persons with mikes even as he entered his car to return home.
He took time to answer a few questions posed by media persons from, his car. He admitted that it is a different election in Tamil Nadu as there is six-pronged contest and it is very difficult to predict who will win. He however refused to comment on some parties bribing to lure voters. The Superstar also requested people to vote without fail as it is their democratic duty.
There was a shadow of doubt as to whether Kamal will cast his vote as he had announced that the shooting of his next film 'Sabash Naidu' will commence in Los Angeles, USA on May 14. When asked about his presence in the city on the polling day he said he will try to cast his vote if his name is included in the voter's list. The Election Commission immediately reacted to that by publishing the details of Kamal Haasan in the database of voters. Now Kamal has stayed in the city and cast his vote along with his daughter Akshara Haasan and actress Gauthami, in a Corporation School at Eldams Road Chennai, He has apparently rescheduled the commencement of the shooting of 'Sabash Naidu' for this purpose.
Addressing press persons after casting his vote Kamal said "All that we expect would not come true in elections. I wish the good people win the elections. People should vote. Higher percentage of votes will be the indication of better uphold of democracy."
