Perhaps the best news in nearly four decades is emerging and gaining momentum in Kollywood circles which is pushing die-hard film buffs into a feverish pitch of excitement. According to reliable sources, Rajini and Kamal are uniting on screen for a new movie (yes you are reading that right) 35 years after they last acted together in the Hindi movie 'Geraftaar' also starring Amitabh Bachchan.
The most surprising aspect of this news is that the titans of Tamil cinema have given the nod to sensational young director Lokesh Kanagaraj of 'Kaithi' fame who is now helming 'Thalapathy 64' in which he made heads turn by uniting Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. We had already broke the news that the newage director has signed a project with Kamal's Raj Kamal Films International.
On December 2nd we again gave you the info that Lokesh met Rajini at his house and had a couple of hours discussion with him. Now industry insiders say that both the meetings are connected and that the Superstar and Ulaganayagan are going to rewrite history once again. It is worth recalling that during 'Kamal 60' both the stalwarts let out that for the good of the people they wouldnt mind working together in politics.
Expert opinion is that by Rajini and Kamal acting together they will not only make a record-breaking box office blockbuster hit but also ease out the enmity and rivalry that their fans harbor towards each other. Politics apart Tamil cinema lovers all over the world will surely rejoice to see them together again Lokesh Kanagaraj sure is a one lucky man to get this opportunity.
Rajini's next release is 'Darbar' on Pongal and he will start shooting for 'Thalaivar 168' soon whereas Kamal is on rest after his surgery and will resume 'Indian 2' directed by Shankar in January and will also start his 'Thalaivan Irukkinran' in the New Year. It is still not clear when the proposed Rajini-Kamal-Lokesh project would start but sources promise a big bang announcement pretty soon.
