Shankar-directed '2.0', which is slated for a grand 2017 release, will have Rajinikanth joining the crew in the third week of September. It was in June that the Superstar last participated in the shoot, following which he either got busy with some 'Kabali'-related works or went to the US for treatment.

In the last three months, Shankar and team shot sequences which didn't need the participation of Rajini.

The Rs. 350 cr behemoth, described as Robot's "spiritual successor", sees Akshay Kumar in the role of a villain.
