Superstar Rajinikanth has wondered why the AIADMK-led State Govt. hasn’t been taking appropriate action for so long with respect to the protest against Sterlite Industries in Tuticorin District.
People of Turicorin District, helped by those from neighbouring Districts and social activists, have been protesting for the past 47 days demanding closure of Sterlite Industries as it has been creating environmental hazards of many kinds. The protest has been going on for the past 47 days and has been supported by all Opposition parties and students’ organizations.
Protests have also broken out in many parts of the State demanding the closure of the plant. However, the Govt. of Tamil Nadu hasn’t yet reacted to the people’s demands or to the protest. Tweeting on his Twitter account, the ‘man of the masses’ wondered why the State Govt. has been inactive for so long without taking appropriate action.
“People have been protesting for the past 47 days stating that they are getting affected many diseases caused by environmental hazards as a result of the plant’s functioning. It is indeed puzzling and surprising that the State Govt., which was guilty of having given permit to Sterlite Industries to operate, hasn’t taken any concrete action in response to the people’s protest,” Rajini’s tweet said.
