It is reported that superstar Rajinikanth might finally take the ‘political plunge’, an announcement about which would be made in all probability by him on his upcoming birthday next month on 12th December.

‘Man of the masses’ Rajini, who clashed with former chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa during mid-eighties and told the State’s voters that ‘even the Almighty can’t save them if they voted in her favour’, was expected to take to politics ever since but has been moving towards his formal political entry only now after creating ripples in the State’s politics more than 20 years back.

Rajini’s fans, who have transcended many generations, have become ‘fed up’ of his inordinate delay in taking a firm decision about entering politics; surprisingly enough, they are still loyal to him and are awaiting patiently for his next move. Rajini met his fans for a week during an interactive photo-session a few months back and hinted about entry in politics to ‘cleanse’ the system to rid it of corruption/mismanagement.

Rajini is likely to address the press on his birthday (12th December). Rajini’s announcement would only add to the excitement as the State is already gearing up for his long-time friend and actor Kamal Haasan’s political entry. “Rajini would launch his outfit but won’t ally with BJP or other parties. He is aiming to make an impact before the next Assembly polls to directly take on DMK and Stalin,” an observer said.

“Rajini is a firm theist and won’t go with Leftist philosophies; he is also not fanatic about religion and won’t ally with the rightist forces too. He would remain neutral in an apparent effort to attract all sections of the people,” he says further. Another popular critic said that Rajini’s entry would be a fitting challenge to the DMK, which now has only a weakened opposition in the form of the faction-ridden AIADMK.
