Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have been ruling the Tamil film industry for the past five decades. Their onscreen rivalry is unparalleled and is relevant even to this day as they give the much younger superstars a run for their money. Off screen their close friendship is also legendary and it is doubtful whether any other pair who are professionally pitted against each other share such a bonding personally.

Now the hot news that has just emerged in Kollywood trade circles is that the Thalaivar and the Ulaganayagan are planning to join hands to produce a mega film in late 2023 or early 2024. According to sources the film will be helmed by none other than Lokesh Kanagaraj who has delivered the all time industry blockbuster hit 'Vikram' starring Kamal, Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil and Suriya.

Already just before the coronavirus pandemic Rajini was supposed to act in Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International banner under Lokesh's direction which was shelved due to the obvious reason. Now it is said that the talks have started again to resume the project but with one difference which is Rajini also serving as co-producer.

The sources say that Rajini and Kamal will be sharing screenspace in the film after forty years. The project is expected to be budgeted around rupees two hundred and fifty crores without the remunerations of the both the megastars. The business that such a combo will generate is expected to be a minimum of rupees seven hundred and fifty crores in the current scenario.

These projections mean that Rajini and Kamal could each take home a cool rupees two hundred and fifty crores which will then make them the highest paid duo ever in Indian cinema history. As of now there is no official confirmation on this trending news though the combo of Rajini-Kamal-Lokesh is definately on the works and it will surely be a all time record breaking one when it materialises.

Lokesh Kanagaraj is currently in preproduction work for Vijay's 'Thalapathy 67' while Rajini will begin shooting for 'Jailer' directed by Nelson Dilipkumar in August. Kamal after the tremendous success of 'Vikram' will soon star in a new movie directed by Mahesh Narayanan.
