Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan have acted together in close to two dozen films before deciding to go it alone in their own unique paths. While most of their combo films were action entertainers a few are also family stories and female centric ones.
One of the cult classics of the duo is 'Aval Appadithaan' directed by C. Rudraiah considered to be one of the greatest ever Tamil films. The film deals with the life and struggles to gain indepence from the male dominated society by a young girl played by Sripriya. Rajini played the role of a male chauvanist while Kamal portrayed a forward minded young man who tries to understand the protagonist.
We broke the news first to you as early as in May 2020 that director Badri Venkatesh of 'Baana Kathadi' fame is planning to remake 'Aval Appadithaan' but he was at a loss as to who owned the rights since the original director passed away. Badri Venkatesh has revealed that Shruti Haasan will be playing the central character in 'Aval Appadithaan' while Simbu and Fahadh Faasil will portray the roles played by Rajini and Kamal respectively. Stay tuned for the official updates.
