Hospital MRI mishap kills a man

A trip to the hospital to visit relatives ended up badly for the 32 year old Rajesh Maru. Maru lost his life after he was pulled towards the MRI machine by magnetic force when he was carrying a metal oxygen cylinder.
Maru was told that the MRI was turned off, but the magnet of the machine was functioning and pulled the oxygen cylinder towards it which was being carried by Maru. According to police reports, Maru had died from inhaling liquid oxygen from the cylinder which might have suffered damage upon collision. Reportedly, two of the hospital staff have been arrested due to their negligence in this regard.
The incident happened at Mumbai’s Nair Hospital and the Dean of the hospital has stated that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death and also that the CCTV footgae has been handed over to the police. In addition to this, the government of Maharashtra has announced a compensation of Rs.5,00,000 to the bereaved family members.
