Even as Rajasthan Royals failed to make it to the playoffs of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had reportedly asked the Royals' captain Sanju Samson to stay back in the UAE.
It is currently being speculated that Sanju Samson might be added to the men's T20 World Cup squad in place of one of the few players who were out of form in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. However, there has been no official confirmation from the BCCI regarding Samson's inclusion in the Indian team. Even though the Rajasthan Royals team is placed at the seventh position on the points table, Sanju Samson had a good season, after he scored a total of 484 runs in 14 matches at an average of 40.33 and strike rate of 136.72. The skipper also secured a century and two half centuries.
The BCCI recently announced the replacement of Axar Patel by Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shardul Thakur in the WC squad, which has been the only change so far to the national team ahead of the October 15 deadline. The board also confirmed that DC pacer Avesh Khan, SRH bowler Umran Malik, and RCB's Harshal Patel, who all performed well in the ongoing IPL, will join the team bubble in Dubai and assist Team India in their preparations.
