A government school teacher in Rajasthan was held by the Alwar police on Friday for allegedly demanding sexual favours from his female students to pass them in their examinations.

The students who had faced the harassment made the allegations when the block education officer visited the government school for inspection. "During the inspection, many girls of the school complained that the teacher used to touch them inappropriately and was also pressuring them to make physical relations else he will fail them in exams," a police officer was quoted as saying by a news agency. As soon as the education department alerted the police regarding the issue, a case was filed against the political science teacher, identified as 45-year-old Dev Prakash Yadav, and he was arrested on Friday evening.

An FIR was registered against the lecturer under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act. As some of the students belong to the SC/ST category, the accused was also charged with the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act and remanded in judicial custody until January 2, 2021.
