A comedy and tragedy mix in ‘Raja Rajendra’ – the grip is lost by Sharan. There is no instantaneous laugh. Even if you tickle your funny bones you would not laugh. The bright elements in Rambo, Adyaksha and Victory are definitely missing in this film. Director Pon Kumar has to take the responsibility of it as the honest producer money is tested with a popular hero Sharan.

The role of Rajendra – Sharan taking on big hero shades in it is a futile attempt. The speedster in dialogues and evoking laughter is the only route of Sharan. Even the action portion is misfit for him. What is the need of the hour is the good script and funny screenplay throughout the film.

When the film reaches the climax Sharan does not score. It is the supporting actors in the film score over Sharan. Has Sharan accepted this film for the sake of money?

It is Mani (Sharan) and his accomplice (Tabla Nani) looking for money. They are hired to kill the head of a royal family who is already down with two heart attacks. That is not easy task for emotional man Mani. He is on a task from the four inmates of the house. Killing the grandfather is impossible for him. The situation turns worse for Mani when actual Mani (bottle Mani) comes in to contact of foursome of the house.

Mani is sent out but accidentally he comes back. At this point he knows his past as there is a portrait in the house of a king looks similar to him. The regular stuff is interspersed in the screen. It is the Mantravadi who plays spoilsport in catching the power of Rajendra. In the climax the powers of Rajendra, a conductor, patriot, murderer all pounce on the inmates of the house. The hero goes underdog at this climax portion.

No doubt Sharan is a good actor, his dialogue delivery, modulation and style is convincing. He should not try something that is beyond his capacity. Ishita Datta looks pretty and she has a good way ahead in cinema. Vimala Raman is in a wafer thin role.

Veterans like Srinivasamurthy, Ramakrishna, Ravishanker, Ninasam Ashwath, Muni score in their portions.

Arjun Janya has given more sound and lyrics are not heard precisely. Sharan has a good voice and he can continue as singer.

Panner Selvam has given good color combinations in his camera work. Editing could have been better as unnecessary characters harm the already average screenplay.

Score – 4.5/10
