Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Wing of the State police conducted raid at the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s (DCP) office at Tirumangalam last night, recovering Rs.5 lakhs of unaccounted money.
The Anti-Corruption Wing had been repeatedly getting complaints of many wrong-doings going on at the Tirumangalam DCP’s office and the sleuths decided to surprise the DCP’s office by opting to raid it on Saturday (14th April) night. Complaints said that ‘Katta Panchayat’ had been held on a regular basis by the police to resolve disputes between various parties by taking money from all concerned parties.
DCP Kameel Batcha was reportedly on duty when the raids took place. Sub-Inspector Pandiarajan and a local builder Selvam were reportedly interacting with Batcha when the raids commenced. Officials at the DCP’s office were shell-shocked at the sight of anti-corruption wing sleuths who went about their task methodically.
Rs.2.58 lakhs was recovered from Selvam and Rs.2.50 lakhs from the drawer of a table at the DCP’s office. The money was taken away by sleuths as the explanation given by those at the DCP’s office regarding the money wasn’t satisfactory enough. A departmental inquiry has been ordered.
