Rahul slams Modi over WhatsApp-Pegasus spying row

It was reported on Thursday that about two dozen journalists, academics, lawyers and human rights activists in India are said to have been spied upon by the Modi government through WhatsApp. The surveillance happened with the use of the Israeli spyware Pegasus, a report says. This allegedly happened before the Lok Sabha elections. Following the report, the government sought a response from WhatsApp.

Rahul Gandhi was expected to hit back at the Modi sarkar over this and he did so in the night. "The Govt seeking WhatsApp’s response on who bought Pegasus to spy on Indian citizens, is like Modi asking Dassault who made money on the sale of RAFALE jets to India!" he said.

The Congress leader has mentioned the Rafale controversy in his tweet even though it has been months since it fizzled out. Even in the run up to the elections, it was never important in public consciousness.
