Rahul Gandhi has confirmed the rumours that have been floating for quite some time that he will contest from the Wayanad in Kerala along with his current constituency Amethi. This move while welcomed by some is frowned upon by CPI (M) who are allies in the DMK led front in Tamil Nadu but will have to oppose him in Kerala.
Some reports suggest that Smitthi Irani the BJP candidate who is fielded against the Congress President in Amethi will also fight against him in Wayanad too but nothing has been confirmed officially on this. This is the first time that Rahul Gandhi is contesting on two seats and spokespeople have stated that he feels a strong affinity to the South Indians and wants them to know that they are important to him.
