Comparison to Modi an insult: Rahul Gandhi on Indira Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, in a recent newspaper interview, rubbished comparisons between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, calling it an “insult.”

“My grandmother’s decisions came from love and affection, her work was uniting in nature and she carried along people and cared for India’s poor. Modi’s decisions come from anger and hatred and his decisions divide the country. And Mr. Narendra Modi has absolutely no empathy for the weak and the poor,” he reportedly said in the interview. However, political analysts seem to disagree with the Congress president’s claims, stating that when it came to making key decisions, the two of them pretty much functioned the same way and that they were both known for enforcing their will upon institutions.

In response to the statement, Rahul Gandhi said, “Every institution in India is facing Mr. Modi’s autocratic backlash. Mr. Modi believes that he is the Lord of India, just like the British believed.” He added that his party didn’t condone this approach.
