'Ragini MMS' and 'Shagird' to lead

Crowded days continue at the box office with as many as four films releasing this weekend - 'Ragini MMS', 'Love U... Mr. Kalakaar!', 'Shagird' and 'Stanley Ka Dabba'. Though none of the four films can be expected to take an earth shattering opening, the best bet would be 'Ragini MMS'. Number of reasons go in its favour - Provocative title, real life merging with reel life, combination of sex and horror and some good marketing and promotional campaign. Not to forget the low costs of the film that would anyways ensure that the film is safe at least for the makers even before the theatrical release.
All of this means that while around 40%-50% opening for the film is on the cards for this non-starcast affair, 'Ragini MMS' would have to be a really bad film not to end up being 'green' at the box office.
The only other film that still has some chances of gaining some moolah for itself is 'Shagird'. Though promotion of this three year old film has been patchy, the return of 'masala' flavour in the last couple of years coupled with the fact that Nana Patekar is looming large from the posters would make audience watch the 'angry old man' on the big screen. Though from opening perspective not more than 30%-40% is on the cards, it has all the potential to do well in the single screens if it indeed turns out to be an entertaining affair.
The same can't be said about either 'Love U... Mr. Kalakaar!' or 'Stanley Ka Dabba'. Former is a Tusshar Kapoor-Amrita Rao affair and is arriving sans any fanfare. Not just is the film too close to Tusshar's last 'Shor In The City', it hasn't created much buzz. All of this means that it is going to be an uphill journey for the film. As for 'Stanley Ka Dabba', it would be a miracle if the film gets anything in the upwards of 20% opening. What would add to its woes is not just the competition in the current week but also weeks to follow.
