Despite ill health, the actor Raghava Lawrene took part in the Marina protest for Jallikattu, almost everyday. He addressed the gathering on the last day to convince them that the act passed by the State Government will be the permanent solution for Jallikattu issue and making them withdraw the protest.
However on the last day of protest (January 23), Nadukuppam, a fishing hamlet near the Vivekananda House where the Marina protests began has been severely affected by the violent attacks between the Police force and the alleged anti-social elements on that day. A fish market has been completely gutted causing huge losses to the fishing community. The violence has also affected the livelihood of many fishermen families living in that locality.
Knowing this from the reports of independent fact finding teams, Lawrence has come forward to donate Rs.10 lakhs as compensation for the Nadukuppam residents. It is to be noted that the independent Fact finding teams have demanded compensation for Nadukuppam residents from the Government but Lawrence has voluntarily donated the amount even before the Government has responded to such demands.
The 'Kanchana' star has also sought an appointment with the Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam to thank him for his Government's efforts to lift the ban on Jallikattu.
