We all know that Raghava Lawrence has been involved in a lot of philanthropic activities for years now and he has been running a trust to take care of entire needs of many destitute and differently abled children.
In this era of social media revolution, we could see many posts and tweets about Lawrence handing out cash or goods to the needy people for various reasons. He himself has started announcing what he plans to do to others and dutifully fulfills his promise within the fixed timeline.
Even today, as the board exams for the students studying 10th Standard under the State Board Education system has started, Lawrence has announced that two boys, Ayyappan and Rahul who were taken by him under his care when they were kids will be appearing for 10th Standard board exams today and requested all to wish them and pray for their success in the exams.
With such constant updates about a celebrity helping others is often interpreted as publicity stunt or an image buildup activity. Is this only about that?
Let assume for a sake of argument that such announcements are made with an intent of gaining publicity. What's wrong in seeking publicity for some good deed you have done to others? It is definitely wrong if one cheats people by announcing something and fails to keep up the promise. But people like Lawrence have never done that. They have helped people in need and made it public only as an information to others.
This may also be seen as a tool to inspire others to help people at least for earning good name from the public and in that sense, publicizing any good activity serves a valid purpose.
Most of us would help a person in need at various instances. We would be able to render one time help or for a limited period of time. But only a few will have the resources and resolve to do that for a long period of time. Lawrence is one among the fewest of few who have been taking care of the entire needs of many children. The two guys appearing for 10th std board exams today stand testimony to this fact. We need to salute Lawrence for doing this and inspiring many people rather than raising suspicion about his intent of publicity.
