'It's time actors knew about production.' Directors and actors should try producing films to know the difficulties involved in production, says director Ameer, a onetime associate of director Bala, who is busy producing and directing his next venture, Ram, starring actor Jeeva in the lead role.
Speaking about the film, Ameer says, 'it is about the love and affection between a mother and a son narrated in a different way. Though I had offers coming my way after my debut in Mounam Pesiyadhae, I was keen on producing and directing this subject, which I conceived long back.'
Ameer says, 'I chose Jeeva (producer R B Choudhary's son) to play the hero since I felt he would fit the same. He gave his best on the screen and I am pretty much satisfied with his commitment.'
'The entire movie happens in Kodaikanal and we completed the entire talkie portions in 10 months,' Ameer says and adds 'actress Saranya plays Jeeva's mother in the movie while Gajala dons the role of Jeeva's lady love. Noted Malayalam actor Murali, Rehman and Pratap Pothan are also in the cast.'
The film would have romance, action and sentiment in the right mix and would certainly appeal to the masses, observes Ameer.
On being titled Ram, he says, 'it is certainly not a movie on any community. It's just the name of the hero.'
According to Ameer, 'Yuvan Shankar Raja's excellent tunes and good cinematography by Ramjee would be the highlight of my movie.'
On his experiences producing the venture, Ameer says, 'being a producer and director myself, I exactly knew where I stood. However, I did not compromise on the budget. But the amount of pain I went through to arrange finance for the film was immense. Every actor and director should produce a film to know the problems of a producer.'
Shooting for the film is almost complete but for a song which would be shot in and around Chennai. Ram would be released in theatres, this October.
