Expectations

Sushant Singh Rajput marked his presence on the small screen and later made it big with couple of good Hindi films. He achieved his highest peak with the release of 'M.S Dhoni'.

This movie got all the critical love as well as fared fantastic over the box office. Thus, Sushant's next film after the blockbuster film is something his fans have been looking forward.

The expectations related to 'Raabta' is very high, due to Sushant's fandom and the chemistry between the lead actors.

Story

'Raabta' is a story of Shiv (Sushant Singh Rajput) who is enjoying his new phase of life in Budapest. His best friend (Varun Sharma) informs him about a comet which would be seen only after eight hundred years and on that day many will find their soul mates. Shiv uses this theory to flirt around with local girls until one day when he meets Saira (Kriti Sanon). A strange attraction brings Shiv and Saira together and this leads to a beginning of a new life in their life. Until the arrival of a multi-millionaire Zak Merchant (Jim Sarbh), who has a centuries old past attached to Shiv and Saira. This leads to a series of unfortunate events related to Shiv, Saira and Zak.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The story structure is quite similar to most of the romantic themed reincarnation based films. What makes 'Raabta' different is its contemporary love story. The first half of this movie is highly enjoyable, engaging and intriguing. You will love the chemistry between Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon.

The dialogues manages to add the right amount of spice required in such films. There are several scenes in the first half of the movie which will entertain you throughout. The cinematography is of top notch.

There are few foot tapping songs like 'Ik Vaari Aa' and 'Main Tera Boyfriend'. The background music is outstanding.'Raabta' featuring Deepika Padukone is a visual treat.

Director Dinesh Vijan tries to revive the reincarnation genre back in our Hindi cinema. He does not follow the routine traits of this genre and that’s what makes 'Raabta' bit different than the usual love stories.

Sushant Singh Rajput is super charming in the film due to his energetic character. Kriti Sanon looks great in her contemporary character and displays a decent act in that track. Jim Sarbh is highly impactful in his role.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The second half dips down drastically. The movie goes on a repetitive mode with not much freshness in it. The periodic track lacks the magic and intensity. The makers should have strictly trimmed down a good amount of chunk in the second half of the film.

Failing to which, the impact of the film gets highly diluted. A couple of scenes, including Jim's finlale track are loud and unwanted.

Director Dinesh Vijanis not able to handle is the second half of the film, especially the past life track. This track looked highly promising in the trailer, but out here ends up being half-baked and fails to create the required impact. There are plenty of loopholes in this part. The movie also keeps dragging in the later part due to its repetitive and bland scenes.

Kriti fails to get inside the skin of her past life character. Jim Sarbh overact and is totally loud in few scenes. Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma are wasted.

Final 'Glitz'

'Raabta' is a love story between two decades. The latest one highly appeals and the earlier one refuses to charm its audience.

Rating: 2.5 / 5.0
