One of the highly applauded politicians Qamarul Islam former minister – the voice of Muslim religion in his region who floated Indian Union Muslim League and entered politics passed away on Monday. Qamar ul Islam passed away on Monday morning following a cardiac arrest.The former Minister had been admitted to Bengaluru’s Narayana Hrudayalaya. He was 69 years old.
Although he was a Muslim Qamarul had very cordial and friendly relation with all the religions. He was darling of all religion people and that was mainly because of very good qualification.
Hailing from business family Qamarul was engineer in Mechanical division and his leadership qualities developed from college life. He joined IUML in 1978 and contested from Kalaburgi constituency and won. He defeated Congress I syndicate Mohammad Ali and Janata Party Ustad Sadat Hussain – heavy weights.
He lost the Assembly in 1983 and 1985 to SK Kantha. Again in 1989 and 1994 he won the assembly elections. He was MP from Janata Dal in 1996.
Qamarul Islam was Housing and Labour Minister in SM Krishna Cabinet. In Siddaramaiah cabinet he was Haj and Wakf minister. Congress I nominated him as AICC secretary and Kerala state in charge portfolios.
In the four and half decades of political life, he had won 11 elections. He was a sportsperson too. The cremation according to Muslim religion customs will take place on Tuesday morning at Kalaburgi. On Monday morning 10.30 to 6 pm his body was placed at KCT Engineering College for public to pay last respect.
