Movies with different subjects are in a vogue. Debutant Saket Chaudhary directed 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects' is one of them that is based on a simple plot:
Does 'pyaar' always come with its own 'side effects'?
Should an ideal love life always culminate into a marriage?
Is your girlfriend who could be a neighbor's envy the best bet for being a wife as well?
Ask Sid [Rahul Bose] and Trisha [Mallika Sherawat] and they should have an answer! After all they were a young couple who were making merry and enjoying the small and big things that life had to offer to them. Until one of them thought it was the right time to name this lovely relationship! A name that would make them each other's forever. MARRIAGE!
The relationship of being man and woman. Husband and wife!
Yes, they are in love, they are different but then they were also the recipe for disaster! And it seemed their love would crash this season. But before that let's see who they were and what happened between the two!
30 year old Sid and mid-20s Trisha [well, a woman's age can be only be guessed, isn't it?] were very much in love with each other. Hep, yuppie and very urban, these two individuals from Mumbai were quite happy and leading an active social life! While Sid was cool and happening in his profession as a DJ, Trisha was happy being in love with him and making him feel good. And now she had a demand to make!
A demand that would not only define the course of Sid's life from that moment on but also, well to make one understand the seriousness of this situation, disrupt his euphoria over watching India defeat Australia in a cricket match!
Trisha proposes marriage to Sid in one of the defining moments of this match and it's no looking back for the poor soul!
Completely taken by surprise with marriage being the last thought in his mind, Sid is unable to react. Or does he overreact? Why marriage? Why to go for some kind of a social certificate? Wasn't it all cool the way it had been going?
And above all, why did it have to happen to him?
On the other and Trisha is amazed to see such a reaction? Why after all, this is what she thought? Isn't it simply great to be a part of such a lovely institution? An institution that gives you all - love, happiness, security, kids, fun and overall a great life!
Sid had all the wrong reasons to defend himself from falling into this trap while Trisha has all the right reasons to make Sid see sense. And eventually the tears work, the emotions flow and Sid is left with no option but say yes! End of story? Naah! Because the side effects are still in the process of taking shape.
And that's just the beginning!
The people surrounding Sid, knowingly or unknowingly, do not give him any chance to think in the affirmative. Women's magazines present before him a scary picture, his roommate and best friend Nanoo [Ranvir Sheorey] equates marriage to suicide, partly because he has himself broken up with his once girlfriend Nina [Sapna Bhavnani], while Sid's sister Shalini [Taraana Raja] lives a theory that conveys a message that men and their opinions should never be taken seriously!
Well, these were not the only troubles in his life. Along with Trisha came her best friend Anjali [Suchitra Pillai] who was oh-so-sweet-and-considerate for Trisha but nothing less than a Dracula for Sid. Also, he was very much a witness to the state his brother-in-law Kapil [Aamir Bashir] was in since Shalini had got pregnant.
