Lending voices was always there in the stream but when Big B introduced the story of 'Lagaan', it spelt magic on screen and even more so, off the screen. It's become a cult practice with many directors running to huge stars with base and metallic voices to give voice over for their movies which worked as a brand endorsement. In Telugu, the first movie one can recall is 'Jalsa' in which Mahesh Babu dubbed his voice introducing Pawan Kalyan and fans felt a current of pleasure running thru their veins. Recently, Megastar Chiranjeevi gave his voice to 'Aadi Shankara'.

As for the Directors, Dasari Narayana Rao used to speak on behalf of the film at the beginning and ending of every film of his. They said the audience waited for his words as much as the national anthem at the end of the show. RGV sensationalized the same with 'Rakta Charitra' in recent times with his pragmatic expressionless tone carrying the mood along with the bloodshed visuals.

It's rare for a director however, to give his voice for a movie. Puri Jagannath is doing that for 'Mondodu', produced by Srinivasa Reddy and directed by Journalist Prabhu with Srikanth in the title role. Producer said 'I thank the ace director Puri for accepting to lend his voice to our film and I am sure, we haven't disappointed him with our product' Prabhu said 'His voice comes in the introductory scenes of Srikanth and in the climax sequence. We thank him for readily accepting to do the same'
