Director SP Jananathan has had no apprehensions about continuing to hold the peculiar title for his upcoming flick - 'Purampokku'. Quite often confused with a piece of no-man's land, the word has lost its actual meaning over the decades, and Jananathan feels the dire necessity to bring it back to its original stature. The word, the director says, stands for anything that is a common resource to all. And the crew seems to have taken the word very seriously, given their move on their prison sets. As revealed by the director, about forty minutes of the movie will have to be shot inside this premises of a jail, for which a magnificent at was erected in the heart of Chennai city.
But the team has not kept it secluded for their personal use alone - many other keen eyes from the film fraternity have been visiting the sets and everyone is all praise for the set complete with prison interiors, visitor's lounge and a hospital. The team received special accolades from the jail's recent visitor, director Rajesh. And not just that - the team has made even their jail Purampokku` by not ripping it down at the end of the shoot, and retaining the set as it is, for use in the future for other projects, thus making it a common property. It is worth mentioning that there were hands from various fronts, including a leading studio from Hyderabad, pitching in to contribute towards erecting the set. The Hyderabadi studio in particular, was willing to offer a good 50% financial support, but have the set erected in Hyderabad. But the 'Purampokku' team was keen on having the set erected right here in Chennai, and bore all the cost on their own. 'Purampokku' stars Arya, Vijay Sethupathi, Shaam and Karthika in lead roles and is directed by National Award winning director SP Jananathan.
