The untimely death of Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar at the age of 46 shocked the entire Indian film fraternity and fans alike. The much loved actor apart from being such a huge star was also a philantropist who has enhanced the life of thousands of people.
Even in death Puneeth has enlightened not one or two but four persons through his eye donation. Doctors have said that by separating the superior and deeper layers of the cornea of each eye of the late star they have given sight to four people, two men and two women, belonging to the state of Karnataka.
Dr. Shetty who conducted all four surgeries added “The superior layer was transplanted to two patients, who had superficial corneal disease, and only the deeper layer was transplanted to patients with endothelial or deep corneal layer disease. Hence, we created four different transplants from two corneas to restore vision for four different patients. This had not been done in Karnataka so far, to the best of our knowledge.
It is also worth mentioning that in 2006 when Puneeth's father the legendary actor Rajkumar his eyes were donated and so was his mother Parvathammal's who died in 2017.
