Renowned publicity and movie poster designer Eswara Rao aka Eswar is no more. He was 84. On Tuesday morning, Eswar breathed his last due to health issues in Chennai. A native of Palakollu from West Godavari district, Eswar began his journey in 1967 with the Bapu-directed 'Sakshi'.
He worked as a publicity designer for four decades in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. In all, Eswar worked on 2,600 movies. AVM, Gemini, Annapurna, Geetha Arts, Suresh Productions, Vyjayanthi and Vijaya are some of the big banners that sought his work. 'Devullu' was his last movie.
'Cinema Poster', a book written by Eswar, won the Nandi Award in 2011 in the Best Book category. Eswar received the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award from the Andhra Pradesh government in 2015.
In an interview a few years ago, Eswar told IANS that the impact one gets by doing a poster manually is not the same whilst working on a computer. He used to do 10 movies per month and spend about two months on each movie.
