Days after Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the Indian version of PUBG, was made available for early access to a few users, the popular online battle royale has been officially launched on Friday and is available to download on PlayStore for all Android users.

Over 40 million people signed up for the local version of PUBG, published by South Korea's Krafton Inc., since pre-registrations for the game opened on May 14. While announcing the launch of the game, Krafton CEO CH Kim stated, This is just the beginning of a series of new content, collaborations and esports tournaments coming your way, and we will strive to ensure that our fans and community in India can fully enjoy the battlegrounds experiences.

Supporting the launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India, Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India, said, With the latest launch, we can envision that the gaming community will thrive and we can expect to see more exclusive multiplayer games being curated for the Indian market. It also supports our vision that India will become the next powerhouse in esports.

The online battle royale is also expected to be available on iPhones soon. Following a clash in mid-June last year between the military troops in India and China over disputed territory which resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers, 59 Chinese based mobile apps, including the popular video sharing app TikTok, were banned in the country over data security concerns.

Later, the government took up another list of such applications and examined them for violations to security and user privacy. Following this, a hundred other applications, including PUBG Mobile, were banned in the country.
