Telangana DGP Dr. M. Mahendar Reddy on Thursday said that there are attempts to foment communal trouble ahead of the GHMC elections. At a presser, the DGP was flanked by senior police officers, Range IGs, and the three City Commissioners.
"So far, we have booked 50 individuals who are trying to create trouble. Among them are rabid communal elements and rowdy sheeters. Their details won't be divulged for now. Our aim is to ensure that no incidents take place in the run up to the elections," the DGP said.
The DGP said that offensive social media posts that are prejudicial to harmony are under examination. "The pubic have to stay alert. With the help of technology, provocative SM posts' impact assessment is being done. We urge the public to report communally sensitive posts to the nearest police station. Don't fall prey to anti-social elements," he added.
So far, 51,500 police forces have been deployed across the city.
The 'surgical strike on old city' speech is also under examination. "We are examining all provocative speeches expeditiously. Speeches aiming to create enmity between communities will be clamped down," the DGP assured.
He said that Rohingyas who have been staying illegally have been acted against. "So far, 62 cases have been registered against illegals," he revealed.
