Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is busy with the promotions of his upcoming film 'Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga', recently condemned the ongoing protests against the Agnipath scheme. For the unversed, few days back military announced their new recruitment scheme which wasn't appreciated by most of the defence aspirants. As a result, protests were held throughout the country and at some places they took the form of arson and vandalism.
Sharing his take on the matter, Pankaj Tripathi said during a press conference, "In a democracy, everyone has the right to protest (andolan) and oppose (virodh). But, I believe that protests should be peaceful and held in a proper manner."
The actor further added, "If in any protest, there is damage to the government's property, then it means damage to the country's property... In this country everyone has the right to speak their mind and peacefully protest. That's how it should be."
Under the Agnipath scheme, youngsters falling in the age bracket of 17.5 to 21 years (2 year relaxation for first year of recruitment) can join armed forces for a period of 4 years. After this period, 75% of them will be retired without pension and other benefits while the remaining 25% will continue to serve.
