Protest fast garners total attention

The day-long fast by Nadigar Sangam to protest against the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka was more of a silent endeavor with actors choosing to tone down their rhetoric. The protest saw the participation of almost all the top artistes including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay, Vikram, Suriya, Vadivelu, Vivek, Vishal, Bharath, Prasanna, S J Suryah, Karan, Karthi, Nayanthara, Trisha, Ramya Krishnan among others. As soon as the fast commenced at 8 am, Radharavi, secretary, South Indian Film Artistes Association, requested the artistes to speak 'less' in order to avoid any trouble, and instead contribute more for the Lankan Relief Fund. Speaking on the occasion, Vijayakanth, took a dig at the State and Central governments for not making efforts to arrive at a political solution for the struggle in Sri Lanka. Among those who spoke till about 2 pm included Thol Thirumavalavan, S. A. Chandrasekhar, S. Ve. Shekher, Abirami Ramanathan, 'Jayam' Ravi, Karan, and Vignesh.
